Excerpt from NAMES
C R O S S I N G
The train sings as it goes
I love the rhythm it has
You hear it, you feel it
In your heart
It shakes you
We’re shaking
We scream when we halt
But we start up again, slow
Gradually returning to a burning pace
That beats beautiful
Jump on, jump off
Every state is temporary
You can’t cover your ears from this noise
Even if you were deaf
The sound would enter you
And move you
Trains bridge distances
Our lives are each vast maps of distances
We need all the music we can get
To carry us across
