Q. Jane, why are people so mean?
Laurie Weeks 1/19/00
A. People are so mean because they're scared. They're scared of others and themselves. Meanness comes from poor self worth and lack of confidence. Mean people think the world owes them something so they are constantly disappointed and blame others for their own dashed expectations. They validate their disappointment by hurting others and seeing others disappointed. Mean people are broken and miserable, even if they don't know it. Mean people can be so messed up they even can think they have good lives. The best thing to do is to stay away from mean people and if by accident you get involved with one, remember how lucky you are to be having your own relationship to the world that is more rewarding on a daily basis than theirs. Nice good people triumph every day because they appreciate this amazing planet and respect others experiences on it. Mean people live alone in the world thinking it's all for them. They miss out on daily pleasures. Even if a mean person wrecks something of a nice person, only that thing is wrecked- not their whole existence. With mean people it's the other way around. Their own lives are like a punishment. Plus, in order for any extreme to exist- the extreme at each end of the spectrum must exist. If really mean people didn't exist, really nice people couldn't exist. The curse of balance that nature is the master of.
I want to know about your religious beliefs.
