Q. What color is the ocean at night?
Dorian LeCroy 12/23/99

A. The ocean reflects the sky and the sky can be an infinite amount of colors depending on the weather and the time of day. At night the sky is dark and full of stars or clouds and usually a moon. The ocean is the color of the moon at night when there is a moon. The moon is actually all over the ocean at night but because of the way our eyes recieve the photons, we only see the reflected bright moonlight in the water in a directional path; from the vanishing point on the horizon that is beneath the moon straight to the viewer's eye(s). Even though the water at night looks dark, it is full of moonlight but we can only see a piece of it. If the sky is cloudy or there is no moon, the ocean is the color cloudy or the glittering shades of dark blues and blacks that shimmer in our minds and we project onto the ocean which reflects us.
