MAGIC SHOW
Beasts walk the Earth
We are among them
We are the beasts
All of us animals
Living and dying
Borrowing these bodies from
The unknown
We grow from tiny creatures
Transforming the whole time we’re here
Then we disappear
We become words in other people’s mouths

What do you do during the magic show?
Try and figure out the sleight of hand or
Believe in the possibility of other explanations?

The deciduous trees miraculously change color
Dandelion seeds defy gravity
Lakes appear overnight in dry beds
You wake up and realize the world is different than you thought
You are not in the audience
You are the rabbit in the hat
Your ears in someone’s hands
And everybody is clapping in disbelief

HAUNTED
Once I was not haunted
once I was excited to wake up in the morning
once a day seemed like a long time
once I didn’t feel responsible for everything that was going wrong
once I wasn’t constantly thinking
once it was quiet for me sometimes

Nothing was easier then
Life wasn’t more beautiful

These minutes are awesome
the smiles on my children’s faces
the words in their mouths blooming understanding and confusion
I am blessed, radiant, swooning
I feel crowded by the beauty
worried by the brevity of everything
everything is just slipping by: them, you, this, me
dissipating, evaporating, vanishing

Now there are ghosts all around me
repeating their stories over and over
dread and caution cling to my actions
alongside gratefulness there is loathing
relativity is a curse
my mind a constant concert of dialogues, arguments, comedies
I am laughing

this hour is a million years
this hour is a wink

Each day is as crazy as a dream
living makes me tired
I’m on fire
It is no mystery
there is much more darkness than light
It is all mystery
anything is possible
coalescing, accumulating, arriving
we are
materializing

Are you still in love?
I am still in love
with the last thing,
the new thing, the next thing
You!

We are ghosts
I’ve said this all before
in your ear
before I disappeared
the same way I got here, just now
come to me again
let us go
let us go

HOW TO WRITE A LOVE LETTER

Use paper

Don’t use paper

Make sure you use a pencil

Definitely use a pen

Do not tell the truth

Only tell the truth

Think

Try not to think

Work on it all day

Simply spend a few minutes on it

Exclusively use the alphabet

Just draw a picture

Mail it immediately

Keep it forever hidden

Cry on it

Kiss it

Burn it

Stain it

Perfume it

Cut it

Trample it

Dream it

Smoke it

Sing it

Swallow it

Write it in chalk on the sidewalk right before it rains

Carve it in stone on a mountain face

Put it in a bottle and throw it in the sea

Fold it into a paper airplane and cast it to the sky

Translate it into code

You are the code

Let the person break you

Open

Read you apart
