Religious beliefs?

Q. I only just discovered your philosophy blog and I wanted to let you know how much your responses remind me of an older, more experienced, female version of me. I agree with your ideas. I want to know about your religious beliefs.

A. How young, inexperienced and male are you? It sounds very exciting : ) Religious beliefs are something to be avoided. I appreciate the wholesome ideas that religions are based on, the colorful pantheons and characters involved and the wonderful dramatic stories; I also love much of the art that has come from religious inspiration or, at least, funding (Like the Sistine Chapel) but religion itself is dogma and righteousness, judgment and superiority; which leads to so many terrifyingly destructive things: like the annihilation of civilizations through the ages, war and repression. Humans use religion to control people. Religion is propaganda. Religion is what it’s called when enough people are brainwashed that it’s gone beyond a cult. Religion is something humanity has to outgrow in order to reach peace.
