NEW YORK CITY BASED
poet,
singer,
novelist,
and artist,
Jane Marie LeCroy
(formerly Jane Hohenberger)
is most often described as a philosopher;
creating freedom by building word bridges between observation and understanding.
This brave creature challenges reality from a delicately mixed force field charged by the scary and the sweet. The word electricity appears in her work more than the word love, and love appears in her work more than the word.
Jane started her career as a "writer for the page" in 1979 at the age of 6. Through the years her work expanded into the realm of performance. Evolving, she studied with Jane Lazarre, Mark Statman, Sekou Sundiata and Kurtis Lamkin at New School University in NYC. She started singing her work a capella and was in the famous NY punk band Vitapup as a solo performer during their set. She was the front-woman in the band Spook Engine, '95-'98. Jane also performs solo with the touring, famed, west coast women poets of Sister Spit. She also tours regularly with her current projects: Somnaut the multi-media electronica endeavor - with David Heagle, AND Transmitting, the acoustic duet - with upright jazz bassist Tom Abbs. Both projects have a foundation element of live improvisation and are informed by a great appreciation and understanding of science.
Jane has established quite a catalog of writing and recordings since her start as a performer in 1992. The critics love her! And they're not the only ones...In addition to her poetry and music, Jane is a poetry teacher at Eugene Lang College and an artist in residence who teaches poetry to elementary school students in NYC, and also publishes the work through Teachers & Writers Collaborative.
The kids LOVE her too!
